Freelance ยท 2020 - Ongoing
Video Editing
Before automotive and cinematic work became my focus, I built my entire freelance editing career inside competitive gaming, amassing over 4 million views across the content I produced, and in the process developing the technical foundation (particularly in Adobe Premiere Pro and After Effects) that everything I do today is built on.
I worked as a professional editor for two esports organisations: ALOFT Gaming (UK Based) and Team Serenity (US and Canada Based). My work with ALOFT began in Fortnite content, but I quickly expanded to VALORANT and other titles. VALORANT esports is where most of my highest profile work sits. Across both organisations, I was producing a constant mix of long form videos, highlight reels and short form clips, all with fast turnaround, as competitive gaming content demands for a fast pace and high volume.
Alongisde org work I was part of Cinetrest, a content agency run by Twan Van den Elzen, (known publically as VanyVisuals - an alias that has since grown into its own company). Through Cinetrest as well as my own outreach, I edited content for profesional players and content creators from organisations including Cloud9, FaZe, NaVi, WAVE, ACEND and others.
All of this work was produced under the alias 'relent' (@relznt on Twitter/X) - the name my editing was known by throughout this period.
Beyond editing, I also managed YouTube channels for creators in the space, most notably @DiabloFNBR, whose channel I grew up to 16,000 Subscribers during the time I ran it, until he stepped away from his esports career.
Even though I've moved onto other work, this is where my foundation in video editing and content creation was laid. The skills and experience I gained in the esports industry have been invaluable in shaping my approach to storytelling and visual communication across all my projects. It is where I pushed my editing proficiency to where it is now, and its also where I learned to think as a content strategist rather than just as an editor. High pressure editing for high output across long and short form formats, for clients who expected the highest level of polish - it forged my workflow and skillset, which I then chose to expand by taking the Media Production degree.
